Dear Fellow Medievalists,
This is a brief note to introduce myself. I am a
mature graduate student at Oriel College in Oxford
working towards concluding a D.Phil. thesis on the
life and career of Richard Flemyng (c1385-1431), who
was Bishop of Lincoln from 1420 until his death. My
aim in this piece of research is to recover the man in
both his temporal and his spiritual context. Work on
his sermons has,of course, been done recently by
Christopher Nighman in Toronto. Of my other historical
interests several have tended to the biographical and
I have done some work on Oriel trained men of the
later middle ages, as well as our first founder, the
chancery clerk Adam de Brome (d.1332). Other of my
interests - at the moment essentially recreational -
lie in attempts to envisage the reality of particular
communities in the later middle ages, and in the
expression of sacral kingship in the period. I look
forward to drawing upon the list's collective wisdom
on some of these interests!
