(a) Re. the whole *white / blessed* question, it's interesting to note that
Welsh (and, I believe, Old- and Middle Irish), uses the same adjective for
the two: *gwyn* (OIr. *finn*). In essence, it seem to derive from the idea
of something clearly perceived; visible.
(b) Does anyone have any chapter-and-verse information as to how many
benefices a cleric was allowed to hold in the second half of the 15th
century? I think Canon Law allowed two, but would be grateful for specific
references.
