Hello everyone
This is an IMPORTANT message - please read it and save it!
It is to let you all know about some forthcoming changes which will affect
the
list and its operation.
When the UK higher education mailing list service was put out to tender some
time ago, Mailbase was NOT successful in its bid to keep running the
service.
Therefore, as from 27th November, a new service (JISCmail) will replace
Mailbase. Existing Mailbase lists (including this one) will be moved to the
new
service over the weekend of 25/26th November. Any mail sent over this
weekend
will be queued and redirected to the JISCmail list.
The new service will make all lists "JISCmail" lists rather than "Mailbase"
lists, i.e. the name of this list will become
[log in to unmask]
This is the most obvious change. So when you post to the list you will need
to
send messages to [log in to unmask] Other changes will occur
because
the new service uses LISTSERV software. This will mean some changes in the
commands that you, as a list member, will need to use. If you want to read
about
these, see
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/docs/user-ref.htm
(This is a useful page, as it shows the mailbase command, and the equivalent
jiscmail command. Commands are for things such as suspending and resuming
receipt of messages from the list, receiving messages in a digest format,
etc)
There are a a few things which you MUST do as from 27th November:
YOU MUST:
- Send any messages to the list to [log in to unmask]
(messages sent
by mistake to mailbase will be forwarded for a while, but please try to
remember
to send to the correct address)
- Send list commands to [log in to unmask]
There are also some things which you SHOULD do:
- Check on the changed list commands (see above)
- Change any filters which you may have set up to sort out your incoming
mails,
so that they are triggered by mail from jiscmail rather than mailbase
- Change any bookmarks (or print references) you may have to Mailbase pages
to
the appropriate page at JISCMail.
More information about the transition can be found at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/docs/transition.htm
Best wishes
Elizabeth Hendron
