Call for papers
The unavoidable cross-posting shows that you are well-networked... (and the
repetition belongs to the communication technology)
There will be a 'stream'-group called "New Technologies and New Visions of
Society" at the
5th Conference of the European Sociological Association
August 28th - September 1st, 2001
University of Helsinki, Finland
New technologies refer here mainly to information and communication
technologies, biotechnologies and their consequences on human life and
reproduction, new media and virtual societies, as well as 'lived mobility'
around automobility. The intention will be to explore the social
repercussions and inhabitation of these new technologies. How technologies
inhabit us and how we inhabit them in a corporeal, cognitive, and
socio-spatial sense. How 'new' are the new technologies, i.e., how they are
related to 'older' technologies. And how all this may generate new, emergent
dimensions of social structure, whose visualization would demand new
theoretical insights.
Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and should be forwarded to us
by
January 31st (2001) at the latest. Notice of acceptance/rejection of
abstracts April 1st.
