Overview of Discussion Panels
The Discussion Panels provide a way in which people can contribute to the
dialog surrounding NIDRR's International Disability Studies Conference.
Select a panel title to view discussion questions. To enter the discussion
continue to follow the prompts. The bulletin board discussion panels will be
open from 1 October 2000 until 30 November 2000. Your feedback on the

The Emergence of Disability Studies

data, theoretical issues, research needs, and community-based activities.

Education

Strategies on how to promote a Disability Studies program, obtain resources,
and negotiate organizational barriers in institutions of higher learning.
Discussion Panel 3:
Implementation of Disability Studies Within Professional and
Training Organizations

Develops procedures for establishing Disability Studies programs within the
formal structure of organizations, including funding, placement and
incentive strategies. Design a system for supporting caucuses or interest
groups. Understand the process for defining standards, adopting practice
guidelines and quality indicators. Learn to work with accreditation and
certification bodies.
