Hi Craig and others concerned about accomodation...
I don't know why the committee chose the very expensive Hilton for this
conference, but fortunately for us there are many options for alternative
accomodation in the city.
A couple of us here at UBC (from the NY area) were thinking about putting
together a list of affordable and convenient accomodation in the
_immediate_ vicinity of the Hilton (in Midtown, Chelsea, maybe the
Village) and a bit further out but in reasonable (10-20 min) walking
or transit distance from the conference site (which would effectively
include almost all of the rest of Manhattan and even a few places in
Brooklyn and Queens if anyone's keen on having a multi-borough
experience).
Please let me know if you think something like this would be of
help. Maybe we could post it on a website that everyone has access to,
and from there, people could make arrangements to get places together,
etc.
Cheers,
Erin
