I would feel that the further management of my patients certainly is
my concern. No point in just looking at my own part of the
continuum of care, if my (excellent!?) work is going to be messed
up later on (or before!).
>From A&E we have a unique perspective at a 'system' level, as the
only true generalists left in hospital medicine. I think that I have a
duty to get involved in the way that the 'Ortho guys' (and anyone
else) organises themselves if it is not optimal for my patients.
Maybe this is just meglomaniac! Is this part of the debate that
seems to be starting about the future of the speciality? Do we take
over the organisation of the whole of acute hospital care? OK, not
enough resources to do this at present, but is this a good vision for
the future?. Or am I still just a bit naive?
