Call for Participation in the IFIP TC13/WG13.1 Workshop:
Teaching HCI: A low-tech approach to a high-tech subject
at OZCHI 2000
Sydney, Australia, 4-8 December, 2000
http://www.cmis.csiro.au/ozchi2000/
The goal for this workshop is to bring together people from
academia and industry who have developed teaching solutions
for HCI that do not require the necessary immediate presence
of an extensive technological infrastructure. One objective is
sharing experiences about useful low-tech teaching solutions for HCI.
A second major objective is to attempt development of a taxonomy
of techniques and the problems for which they are most useful.
That is, when are high-tech resources necessary to pedagogical
goals and when are low-tech alternatives appropriate?
The workshop will also involve teaching the teachers.
Participants will be asked to come prepared to both discuss
and illustrate their teaching materials and exercises.
A few will be asked to demonstrate their teaching exercises
during the morning session, using other participants as students.
The afternoon session will focus on development of the working
taxonomy for low-tech teaching techniques.
The workshop date is Monday 4 December 2000.
Cost of participation is $120 (+ GST $12).
Submission instructions: By 16 October, please send an
electronic copy in RTF (or plain text) to:
