just a note, i am a sport physio here in canada, and i can't count the
number of times i have been on a rink/field/pitch and had a player go down
with a suspected head/neck injury.
my main concern is, as previously indicated, untrained individuals calling
themselves sport therapists/physios/atheltic therapists and doing really
stupid things.
it is crucial for us as therapists in practice and sport to educate the
public as much as possible. saying that even well trained therapists do
really stupid things such as:
the therapist for our now dead winnipeg jets jumping out on the hockey rink
to rush to a suspected head injured therapist, slipping and being knocked
out for several minutes.
the same therapist also pulled a obviously concussed teemu selanne off the
ice and walking him to the bench almost allowing him to fall several times
and not getting help.
i saw the incident in question in the nfl and it was handled very poorly for
a pro organization. for any young therapists seeing that incident close
your eyes and forget what you saw.
Yours in Sport
Rob Herman
