Dear Bill,
Last Tuesday I was named to head the Venezuelan Oficina de Asesoria Economica (this
was the office headed by Gustavo Garcia a few years ago). I have taken leave from
Maryland and am now in Venezuela. I think this is very exciting work, especially
given that the venezuelan congress has to revise all the main laws in the next two
years to make them consistent with the new constitution. The office is also
financed with an IDB loan that enables it to pay high wages and thus recruit a good
team of economists.
All this is my excuse for cancelling my upcoming Brown Bag on the 26th. I am of
course already up to my ears in work and will be very busy during the next few
weeks. I would however like to reschedule ot for sometime in the future (say next
year).
All the best,
Francisco
