dear list members
i thought alex made an interesting point - and one
which seems intuitively important. its copmplex
though isn't it? partly because it makes us face the
realities of how we live our own lives - rather than
the easier issues around what research we see as
important.
one of the difficulties i have with trying to make
'equity as a value' explicit is how are we to judge
whether or not we are living 'equitable lives' -
something which will inevitably be a struggle in such
an inequitable society. different groups of people
are likely to engage in this struggle in different
ways - and ways which may be more or less acceptable
and agreeable to other groups. so i suppose what i'm
thinking is that what alex described as a 'deeply
submerged dichotomy' may indeed be deeply submerged,
but more complex than a dichotomy. does this make any
sense to people?
best wishes
ursula
