computer problems, and we thought we should check in case some
applications submitted by email had been lost. Everyone known to
have contacted us before the weekend of 22 July has been
contacted in the last fortnight. If you have submitted a proposal and
have not heard from us recently, we should be most grateful if you

</color>The conference will feature plenary addresses by Annie Janowitz
and Thomas Laqueur. To offer a proposal for a 25-minute paper on
any aspect of eighteenth-century culture or science, please send a
200-word abstract to the President, Janet Todd by 30 September
(note the revised deadline); or to attend the conference without
giving a paper, request an application form direct from the 2001
Conference Organiser, Valerie Rumbold.
Ten small bursaries of £50, payable at the conference, are available
for graduate students who are giving papers and who are paid-up
members of BSECS.
