This is advanced notice of a conference that Melinda Jones and I are
organising under the title "Constructing Law and Disability". The
conference is sponsored by the Humanities Research Centre at the Australian
National University, the School of Law and Legal Studies at La Trobe
University and the Faculty of Law at the University of New South Wales. It
is being held at the Australian National University in Canberra on Monday
4th and Tuesday 5th December 2000. It is part of the HRC's Conference 2000
program "Law and the Humanities".
The conference aims to explore the role of law in achieving justice for
people with disabilities by considering issues such as the impact of
different conceptualisations of disability on law and the role and function
of law in dealing with a range of matters of concern to people with
disabilities, their families and policy makers.
The conference will be attended by a wide range of legal professionals,
social scientists, people with disabilities, policy makers and academics.
Keynote addresses will be delivered by internationally acclaimed disability
scholars, Mairian Corker, from Kings College, University of London and
Michael Bach Director of Research, Roeher Insitute, Canada together with
papers from distinguished Australian scholars, activists, policy makers and
practionners.
If you are interested in receiving more information about the conference
please contact me off the list, preferably via email.
