Dear Colleagues:
Correction is in order. The Egyptian Security Prosecutor has ADDED the new
accusation of espionage to the already existing list of ludicrous
accusations leveled at SEI.
In their Monday 08/07 issue, both Al-Ahram and Al-Quds carried a vaguely
worded release from the Security Prosecutor's office that could be
INTERPRETED as formal charges. BBC reported formal charges Sunday afternoon.
However, Sunday night Radio Monte Carlo broadcast a report by Muna Salem to
clarify the confusion. Formal charges are yet to be made.
The espionage charge was in reference to a paper presented by SEI at the War
College in Washington. The presumption is that he was spying for the US. No
reference was made to other countries.
Hope this clarification helps.
Naiem A. Sherbiny
