This may be of interest. I'm the principal investigator for a research
project into pre-hospital telemedicine in remote areas (of Australia). We
use a newly released Telstra portable satellite VC system, as well as a
digital stethoscope & hand-held 12-lead ECG etc., which interface with the
laptop which then 'interfaces' with the satellite. This enables us to go
into homes, roadside, beach, gully -- anywhere. Picture & sound are good
enough to enable a remote trauma specialist to guide an 'outpost' attendant
in an urgent needle decompression (a simulation which we did recently &
which was televised). The battery operated satellite VC system costs less
than a family car. There's an attachment for anyone interested.
