Who is your boss? When s/he says the "department of health" who does he
mean?- Politicians, DoH civil servants or private office policy advisors?
I am not aware of any of the real "players" at the DoH having such
opinions. Indeed some very influential people are keen for A&E to develop
more along the American "Emergency Medicine" lines.

Currently sitting on the desk of the Minister is the report from the A&E
Modernisation team. I would be very surprised if thisrecommends anything
like what you fear. The membership of this group is well known and includes
a number of highly respected A&E Consultants whose views are diametrically
opposite to this.
