Dear John
Further to my earlier note, I have had an intensive session on the on-line
versions of the Index today.
1. The searchable version of the Index is now fully up-to-date, including
the details of the June Journal.
2. I have - I believe - now made all the Vol/number entries for the MAIN
index consistent with one another.
3. I have also integrated the details of the March and June 2000 Journals,
so that there is now an up-to-date version of MAIN for browsing on the site,
downloading, or printing.
4. I have not yet been able to do the same for the NAME index, because of
pressure of time; but I have found a speedier way of attacking the problem,
and may well be able to generate this also. Once it is in place, I should
also be able to keep it up to date
5. I have, though, already presented the data from the MAIN index so that it
can be browsed by Author, or Number. I hope this will will fill the gap
until I can offer your NAME index.
It would be excellent if you could have a loook through and advise me of any
remaining howlers. Also if all the recipients of this note could let me know
how long it is taking to download MAIN, AUTHOR, and NUMBER for browsing. It
has just taken my system - at a busy time of day - 1'.50", 1'25", and 1'45"
, but I have the advanatge of having an ISDN line, which is twice as quick
as the average modem.
Any data on speeds will be most helpful; if anyone is sending this to me, it
would be most helpful if you could let me know the modem you are using, the
computer you are using, the web browser you are using, and the time of day
you were on-line.
All good wishes, John Radcliffe
