Dear all,
I am based at the University of Sheffield and I'm currenly
conducting research looking at the experiences of disabled parents
where one or both parents has a physical impairment. The study is
taking place in England and hopes to get in touch with parents who
would like to share their views about what it is like to be disabled
and what it is like to be a parent. The following areas are of
particular interest:
Did you grow up thinking that you would have children? What were
the expectation s of people around you?
How did people around you react when they knew you were
pregnant or going to have a baby (family, friends, health and social
services, the community in which you live)?
What was the pregnancy like? What level of involvement did you
receive from health and social services?
Did you have any support (practical, emotional etc) through the
pregnany and afterwards?
Did you get the kind of support you wanted?
What were your experiences in the early months after your
child/ren was born?
What was your relationship like with your children when they were
young and what is it like now?
Can you list the services you have received from health and social
services indicating the nature of each service and how you would
rate it?
Do you think that your disability has had any effect on your
child/ren?
These are just some of the areas of interest of this research. So, if
you are living in England and you would like to be involved in this
research please email me at [log in to unmask] and I will
send you a short summary of the aims of the research from which
you can decide if you want to extend your involvement. If you are
interested in continuing we can discuss how you would like to be
involved.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Leigh Fiorentino
