I recall a reference to the Mayo Clinic (on the web) that looked at this age group up to 94 year olds.
A chappie called Armand Tanny reported this in the magazine called "Muscle & Fitness"...a few years back I'm afraid.
Hope this helps

Subject: testing muscle strength in the over 85 age group
Dear List,
Does anyone have any references with regard to testing muscle strength in the
over 85 age group?
This has arisen as a problem in our rehab team that covers both day hospital
and inpatients. Seems like all our team are trying to quantify impairment of
muscle strength, but it turns out on discussion, that this has been in a non
uniform manner. (Complicated considerably by the fact that many of our
clients cannot tolerate prone lying, and often supine, sidelying and single
leg stance, even with support, is not feasible.)
Things got even more thorny when it was revealed that some of us have been
testing strenghth statically and some through available range....
References, comments, suggestions most gratefully received.
