Dear Laurel,
cold and grey = sounds like reykjavik, where it is considered
great working weather! so what do i do when the sun shines for 3 days
in a row, as it is doing now?
Are you interested in Mariu saga primarily as a source for
the prioress? the only convenient summary in english is likely to be
in Medieval Scandinavia: An Enclyclopedia published by Garland, which you
should get your library to order if they dont have it. otherwise,
i can answer specific questions. I have not forgotten that i promised to
do something with Ole Widdings article on it, but that is rather low
on my list of priorities. I have a million things to do, other than
house hunting, which is out of the question anyway because prices
have sky-rocketed and the only way to buy here is to sell in
Charleston - and im not QUITE ready to do that. I could, in fact,
happily spend the rest of my life in the room i am currently renting,
10 minutes away from the research institute, just reading ... the
only catch is that EVENTUALLY i would run out of books (iceland, in
general, doesnt have many $ for imports) , and that would be frustrating.
Aside from scholarship which has been on the back burner for
far too long, my summer is going to be spent working on grant proposals.
and job applications, if any jobs arise. what chance that the reorganization
in vermont will result in possibilities up there?
Who is your editor in Michigan, and what is the paticular nature
of his interest? I ask because one of the grant applications for which i
missed the deadline wanted a list of 10 people from whom they choose individuals
to evaluate the project. so i need 10 enthusiasts!
all the best,
meg
