In Bury, we run 'Library Roadshows' to schools. Our objective is to get the
kids to come into libraries. The Roadshows consist of Assistant Librarians
taking several boxes of books (representative of Junior fiction and
non-fiction stock) into primary schools and set them up in the school hall.
Classes then take turns to come and look at the stock, whilst the library
staff offer advice, run quizzes, etc.
We've been doing this for about 10 years now, and feel that the format may
be a little stale. We are currently, therefore, undertaking a review
exercise and, as a part of that, I am sending this message on behalf of
Sarah Howell, Assistant Librarian at Radcliffe Library (0161-253 7163).
Does any other Authority run a scheme such as this, or try to meet similar
aims in a different way? What has been your feedback about what schools and
children want?
I will pass replies on to Sarah (please feel free to contact her direct, if
you wish) and we will post a summary of replies to the list. Thanks.
