Hi Tinho,
Possibly for Cartographiti: There were two items of cartographic interest
in The Independent of Saturday 27 May.
On the front page of the Weekend Review section was an article celebrating
50 years of 'The Archers'. It was illustrated with part of a pictorial map
of Ambridge 'based on the official Ambridge & Borchester District Map by
Dominic Beddow, published by Magnetic North'. (There's one the OS can't get
anything back on!). There was also a small road map of Borsetshire, the
county in which Ambridge and Borchester fall. Not being a great Archers fan,
I had not twigged that Ambridge is a bridging point on the River Am, nor
that Penny Hassett was a place, not a character! It is just a pity it wasn't
the interactive version - that would have allowed us to zoom-in to a
large-scale plan of the Grundy's new home on a Borchester council estate.
The 'Traveller' section of the same paper had a feature 'The complete guide
to the Scottish Islands', with a simple near-full page map of Scotland. The
interesting thing about it was the mis-spelling of Stirling region as
'Sterling'. I trust this is simply a typing error and is not anticipating a
revolt in that area against a new Scottish currency to go with
independence?!
