The European Commission has established "Europe Direct", a one-stop
information service for citizens.
You can:
- Look at Frequently Asked Questions at their website
(http://europa.eu.int/europedirect/en/index_en.html)
- phone them free of charge from any member country (each country has a
different freephone number, listed at the website)
- email them at [log in to unmask]
The site also has a country-by-country guide to working conditions, laws and
regulations, social security etc, for those who want to live and work in a
different part of the EU. Also similar information about education, consumer
rights etc.
Some of the information is a little suspect. For example about travel it
says:
"There is a good system of transport in the UK, including air, road and
rail."
a view with which many UK residents would take issue!
