Members of the Crafts mailbase may be interested in the programme of
events Gallery Education @ the Crafts Council scheduled to accompany
close, the final exhibition in the 3Up series. The exhibition opens on
Thursday 22 June and runs until Sunday 3 September 2000.
Education Open Evening
For Educators and Youth/Community Group Leaders
Thursday 29 June, 17.00 to 19.30 FREE
Special events on the evening
- 6.00, Gallery Talk by Jane Thomas, Exhibition Officer.
- Exhibitor Neil Brownsword will be demonstrating press-moulding and other
ceramic techniques which can be adapted for use with students.
- Display of work from Exhibition Drawing Classes.
- Free Teachers Notes will be available on the evening, however these may
be printed off in text format from the website (see address below) early
on in July.
End of Term Activities for School and College Groups
'Electric Places I' led by May Cornet
Workshop for GCSE, GNVQ and A level students
Thursday 6 July, 10.30 to 15.00
Fee: £10 including all materials. Please bring a packed lunch.
Holiday Workshop for Children
'Electric Places II' led by May Cornet
Workshop for 8 - 12 year olds
Saturday 26 August, 1.00 to 3.00
Fee: £5
Participants will be encouraged to experiment with images of places,
possibly in the form of picture postcards, pricking holes into them and
placing them into simple battery operated lightboxes to form an image with
light.
Workshops for Primary School Groups
'Clay Impressions' led by Neil Brownsword
Thursday 13 and Friday 14 July, 10. 00 to 11.30 or 1.00 to 2.30 (Allow 45
minutes per session) FREE
Neil Brownsword will show pupils how to work intuitively carving out their
own imagery from plaster blocks, or form shapes from existing moulds to
create a simple clay tile or relief panel. The aim is to demonstrate some
of the techniques that Neil employs in his work and the workshops can be
combined with a short Gallery Talk by Gallery Education staff. (To book

Friday 30 June, 10.30 to 1.45
Fee: £3.50 per student.
Exhibition Drawing Class for Adults
Led by Paul Brandford
Thursday 24 August, 10.30 to 1.45
Fee: £5.00, £3.50 students and concessions.
The drawing classes are designed to help interested visitors get the most
ut of a gallery visit and is aimed at individuals who wish to develop
their drawing skills. The fee includes the cost of a sketchbook, drawing
materials and refreshments.
Ceramics Workshop for Adults
'Experimental Assemblage and Surface Techniques'
2-day workshop led by Neil Brownsword
Friday 4 & Saturday 5 August, 10.30 to 4.30
Fee: £60, £25 concessions, including lunch and all materials.
This 2-day workshop will enable participants to explore many of the making
and surface techniques Neil employs including the experimental assemblage
of press-moulded and hand-built forms and the transfer of imagery directly
onto clay using plaster - either to carve into creating relief
impressions, or as a low-tech colour printing device.
Drop-in Activities for Families
'Jewellery Exchange' led by Lesley Vik Waddell
Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August, 2.00 to 5.00
FREE
Throughout the afternoon exhibitor Lesley Vik Waddell will be running drop
in jewellery sessions, during which participants will be encouraged to
make pieces for each other rather than for themselves.
