This message is being sent to members of the European Sociological
Research Network ‘Biographical Perspectives On European Societies’
and subscribers to the ‘biog-methods’ and ‘european-sociologist’
list. Apologies for any cross-postings.
You probably have received a preliminary announcement about the 5th
European Sociological Association Conference which will be held in
Helsinki, 28 August-1 September 2001.
The ‘Biographical Perspectives On European Societies’ Research
Network of the ESA plans to have a full program. If you have an idea
for a session at the Helsinki conference, please send it to Robert
Miller, the Chair of the Research Network, at the address below.
As well as the usual format of 3-4 papers centred
around a specific topic, the Board welcomes innovative
ideas for sessions, such as a ‘hands-on’ workshop, a session based
upon media other than the printed and spoken word, etc.
We have not yet received information from the ESA Secretariat about
the form of the conference, but expect it will be similar to previous
conferences: 6-8 paper sessions of approximately 1 ˝ hours each.
Ideas for sessions should arrive with Robert Miller by
25 July at the latest (preferably sooner).
The Board will develop its program and
circulate a Call for Papers late in the summer to coincide with the
2nd General Conference Call from the ESA.
Please do not send us abstracts of papers yet. Also, we do not know
anything more about the Conference than the material which has come
from the ESA. If you have general Conference queries, please contact
them via the ESA web pages: http://www.valt.helsinki.fi/esa/
