Can any of the learned members of this list
suggest sources more recent than the Acta
Sanctorum (to which I will have accessx only
in a week or so) about St. Macarius of Ghent?
According to Butler, he was a bishop
of Antioch in Armenia (sic) who ended up in
Ghent via Mainz and Cologne. His vitae are
two, one by Erembold in 1047, and another
on the occasion of his translation from 1067.
If anyone familiar with the history an/or
hagiography of Ghent (or Mainz or Cologne)
can shed any light on this figure
(or on Erembold, and his writings)
I would be most grateful. I will yhave about
ten days at a "real" library at which to
hunt
down references, and would like to have
them in hand before i start!
