I agree with both Nick and Renee regarding the use of alcohol by student
physiotherapists. Nick correctly states that the main issues of importance
to a physio student are academic studies, sex, football and drinking (not
necessarily in that order). However, as Renee points out a balance must be
maintained between social and academic activities. I think that time
management is a very important issue here and I think it is up to the
academic institutions to make sure that there is time allocated to social as
well as learning activities. Therefore, I propose that a core subject called
"Life Skills for physiotherapists" be added to the syllabus. This subject
should consist of thrice weekly lecture/practicals involving alcohol
resistance training and horizontal goal scoring, thus encompassing all
important factors. Gender ratios (in Sheffied Polytechnic 1979-82 it was
Female 37:Male 3) and gender preference may involve the use of external
lecturers or experienced physiotherapy practioners but I am sure that there
would be no lack of not so fussy volunteers.
just a thought........

Nick,
My intention was not to say that drinking in college meant you would drink
on
the job. My concern is that drinking to much (and if "alcohol, alcohol,
alcohol" is the key attraction to the school, not the quality of the
program,
excess may be the case) can affect learning, as can playing too much
football
or spending too much time with the "less fussy...females."
