ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY RESEARCH GROUP (EGRG) POSTGRADUATE SYMPOSIUM
6th -7th September 2000, School of Geography, University of Manchester
Convenors:
Paul Kent (Queen Mary and Westfield College) and
Anthony Vigor (University of Manchester)
The Economic Geography Postgraduate Symposium will be held at the
School of Geography, University of Manchester. It has been decided to
run it so that people attending the Postgraduate Symposium will also
have the opportunity to attend the EGRG/UGRG/International Centre for
Labour Studies-sponsored 'Labouring and Living in the City' Seminar
held at the University of Manchester on the afternoon after the close
of the Postgraduate Symposium - including such eminent speakers as:
Tim Butler, Jane Dark, Eleanor Kofman, Gordon MacLeod and Ivan Turok.
The symposium provides an opportunity for postgraduates currently
undertaking economic geography research to present papers in an
informal, friendly environment. In step with last years successful
QMW meeting, the 2000 symposium will provide an opportunity to gain
valuable experience in presenting research.
The day will begin at 1.30pm with registration and end at 5.30 with a
mass movement towards Rusholme for a curry. Overnight accommodation
will be available (the cost will be confirmed at a later date). No
doubt the clubs of Manchester will provide a fertile arena for evening
discussion, before commencing the second day at 9am! This will run
until 12.30 allowing ample time to move over to the joint
UGRG-EGRG-ICLS seminar.
There will be nine timetabled slots for presentations, as well as a
reading session with Dr. Noel Castree (University of Manchester).
Papers should be around twenty minutes in length (to allow for
discussion) and a 300 word abstract should be submitted (preferably by
e-mail: RTF format) to either Paul Kent or Anthony Vigor at one of the
addresses below before 1st July 2000. Submissions should include
telephone, fax and e-mail details.
