So when do you consider someone beyond resuscitation? When they are
mottled? Green? Burst? I accept that you maybe do not regard the dead as
worthy of courtesy or dignity, but that is something of a side issue. One
needs to consider the effects on the rescuers, for they are clearly not
functioning in a sufficiently rational fashion. Your definition of life is
similarly irrational and useless in a practical setting.
Someone has to decide when life is extinct and when to start
resuscitation, and comments about decisions being made on the basis of a
list including finances is muddled to say the least. We need urgently to
provide a robust set of guidelines, if only to stop ambulance crews with
blue lights and sirens trailing bodies around the countryside.
