Sources of Environmental Information
a one day training workshop
23 May 2000
Tracking down environmental information is not always easy:
* The field is wide, covering geography, chemistry, engineering,
ecology, biology and medicine
* The volume of available information is growing fast
* The information itself varies in quality and impartiality.
Yet as Government places more emphasis on sustainable business and
environmental accountability, having reliable information about the
environment has never been more critical.
This course can help you meet the challenge. During the day you will
view a number of demonstrations of environmental database products.
The course also includes a demonstration of sources of environmental
information on the Internet, both priced and free.
In one day out of the office, you will
* Decide the most suitable sources of information for your needs
* Understand how information can be presented subjectively
* Learn about the range of information available from the electronic
sources on the Internet
* Explore a variety of environmental databases through 'hands-on'
demonstrations.
Who should attend
This course is designed to introduce environmental workers,
researchers and information professionals to this expanding area -
including traditional printed material, grey literature, online and
CD-ROM sources and the internet. The course is aimed primarily at
beginners, although more experienced searchers will find it an
invaluable refresher.
The Speakers
The speakers include experienced information officers from the British
Library Environmental Information Service and outside experts, each
with specialist skills in a particular field of environmental
information. During the day the speakers will be on hand to answer any
questions from participants.
