Susan:
On Traffic on Relics:
You might try Patrick J.Geary, <FURTA SACRA: Thefts of Relics in the
Central Middle Ages> Princeton, NJ : Princeton University Press,
repr. 1991.
as a starting point. The bibliography is ripe with specific studies
on particular "sacred" objects sought and gathered and 'transacted'.
On Confession in High Middle Ages:
Peter Biller and A.J. Minnis., ed. Handling sin : confession in the Middle Ages
Woodbridge, Suffolk ; Rochester, NY : York Medieval Press, 1998.
There is likewise a recent dissertation from the University of
Pennsyvania on Auricular Confession on France in Late Middle Ages. I
will retreive the citation and pass it on.
These should help.
