Dear friends,
for a very long time I haven't seen lots of messages in my "Inbox"
beginning with "RE: RE: RE: RE: .......... RE: ". It looks really
imposing!!!
I am happy, that my mail caused so many messages about the ways of
discussing important problems. The things Paul is writing about on his site
(http://web.inter.nl.net/users/Paul.Treanor/dem.wrong.html) are very
interesting, I agree with some of his ideas and disagree with others. But I
just wanted to say that we should think not only about WHAT we say, but HOW
we do too. It is impossible to talk with the man, who thinks he is
absolutely right. People who do so are often very interesting persons, but
they often make really big mistakes. What can you discuss with the man who
is speaking like a public prosecutor? If you even don't know, is he
interested in your opinion, or not?
I must ask you all to forgive me for my first, very emotional (maybe
TOO emotional) message. Maybe it was necessary to find some other
words than that, that I have used. But this happened because I am bored
with the empty accusations, endless discussions between people who think
that only they are absolutely right, in the newspapers and TV. For me
discussion (DISCUSSION !!!) lists were interesting because people here
respect the opinions of others, and who, finally, are sociologists, not
politicians.
I will be happy, if this day's talk will make all of us to pay more
attention to the way we're expressing our ideas and the way we are
listening to others.
Sincerely yours,

P.S. By the way, congratulations, Paul, it seems that after all you are the
winner today ....
P.P.S. If we are returning to the normal flow of the situation...
Does anybody know, where in the Web I can find "Some principles of
stratification..." by Davis and Moore? This article was translated in
Russian, but the quality of the translation is not so good. Maybe someone
has seen the original text it in the Web?
