These examples are psychosocial responses to impairment based on environmental factors. Incontinence is more a social stigma issue rather then an negative value. If we don't acknowlede impairment in the most basic form is neutral then the social model counts for nothing and we should eradicate ourselves? I do agree that are impairment issues which are not neutral but biologically, I am just argueing that impairment is natural since it exists around the world through all history, therefore it is not bad and so a neutral fact.

Subject: RE: disability and impairment
What if someone experiences an impairment as frustrating? (I don't mean heavy doors or stairs, but things like incontinence or "E.D.," as Bob Dole would say.) Frustrating is not necessarily neutral. Or, on the other hand, someone might experience an impairment as enlightening. (Mood swings can be pretty enlightening.) Which might not be neutral. Someone might experience an impairment as frustrating and enlightening. Claudia

In problem is how others relate to this, which creates disability. For myself, my identity as a disabled peope is very different to my identity as a impaired person. While all identity is interlinked, it is separate. I do agree that impairment affects lifestyle and with external pressure, will be socialised with a positive or more likely neutral value. But going back to the issue, impairment is a biological fact and therefore neutral.
