Dear Reader,
The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and
Working Conditions would like to announce a new database service
and a forthcoming conference added to its website SD-ONLINE.
SUPPORT DATABASE FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED
ENTERPRISES
This database describes 60 sustainable development support
initiatives specifically designed for SMEs in the European Union.
Please see http://susdev.eurofound.ie - and then click on 'SME
Support'.
Comprehensive information and a clickable link to the appropriate
website has been provided for nearly every programme. The content
is aimed at policy makers and companies interested in exploring
support mechanisms that help to move SMEs towards sustainable
practice. Please see below for a small selection of 'programme
titles'.
- Cluster Innovation Environment Technology - Netherlands
- Environmentally Superior Products Grant Scheme - Ireland
- Iniciativa Entorno-PYME - Spain
- Environmental Science and Technology Park - Italy
- Ecodesign Demonstration Project - Belgium
The addition of this database means that there are now 537 links to
'sustainable development' websites available through SD-ONLINE.
EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
- SMEs AND NEW ENTERPRISES
The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working
Conditions will host a conference in Dublin, October 12-13 2000.
Please see http://susdev.eurofound.ie/conference.html
SMEs present a particular challenge in the drive towards
sustainable production. On the one hand, a great number of the
most innovative new companies are strongly committed to
sustainable modes of production. On the other, there are many
SMEs still wedded to traditional and often unsustainable production
practices. The conference will last two days and will comprise a
plenary session and four parallel sessions dealing with the
following themes:
- Product design - practical examples of SMEs
- Support systems for SMEs - innovative examples
- Training needs of SMEs
- Evaluation of draft Foundation report on Factors and Processes
leading to Successful Design
To help disseminate the findings of the event the Foundation will
post the conference report on SD-ONLINE after the event as a free
download.
Participation in the conference will be limited to a total of eighty
invitees, including a number of invitees nominated by European
social partner representatives. Interested parties can contact the
Foundation though participation will be by invitation only (for
contact information please see
http://susdev.eurofound.ie/conference.html ).
WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT
SD-ONLINE is designed and developed by EDEN B.V. on behalf of
the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and
Working Conditions. For more information on EDEN's database
