Niemayer's cabana = cottage refers to Isidor's Etymologies bk 14, ch. 12
and Bernard-Bruel Chartes de Cluny I no. 221 (a. 920).
He also has cabannaria meaning a little rural exploitation and cites St
Victor of Marseille for the year 1036 and another for Grenoble in 1083.
All told, seems pretty common.
