I think we should not exclude from these lists the recent books on Heaven,
Hell & Purgatory. The whole ars moriendi literature also needs to be kept
in mind. There also were major fights over rights to bury the dead &
receive offerings and bequests. This particularly gets into legal
literature. See the work of Richard Trexler, Brendan McManus and (at one
point in my life) myself. I cite much of the older lit. in an article
contained in my collection Friars and Jurists.
