I welcome a policy of limiting attachments to discussion list postings, some
people in the North find them annoying too :-) !!
I would, however, point out that some viruses can alter the file extension of
infected documents (eg from '.doc' to '.rtf') making a virus-laden Word file
look like a harmless RTF file.
