Hi everyone!
There has been much discussion in the past about the similarities and
differences in the British version of the social model and the American
version. Can someone direct me to some literature that compares and
contrasts the two models? What are the basic similiarities besides the
rejection of the medical model? Differences? I have read that the British
model is more materially-based with a focus on economics while the American
model is a minority or cultural model. Are you in agreement with this? From
what I read in texts from both Britain and U.S. (and this is not to exclude
scholars from other than these two countries), both countries have scholars
who look at all aspects of disablement. I'm having some trouble drawing
sharp distinctions between the two. Is the distinction no long valid in
light of the international nature of dis. studies?
Thanks.
Best wishes,
Beth
