Let me guess. The ableist & homophobic crackpot (yes-- crackpot,
because of the word "pedophelia"), who is probably in absolutely every
possible non-stigmatised category -- who wrote the stupid and paranoid
words you quoted,..... will probably pop up in Lingua Franca magazine in
the next year, bashing the hell out of Disability Studies, with as much
lying-by-omission and ultra-selective anecdote-spinning, as it takes, to
reach his/her pre-ordained negative conclusion.
This article may take Lingua Franca's classic form, of the pseudo
"expose" of why some young whippersnapper (anyone seeking tenure, or
anyone not deeply entrenched & conservative) didn't get tenure, and
(supposedly) didn't deserve it either... (or is teaching a new approach
that's all wrong), all written with the apparent intent of making sure
they can't avoid a re-run, at the next place they seek tenure.....
This is on it's face, the university management ableism story, as
described so well in Simi Linton's book, about trying to establish a new
course. But it's also an example of the larger classic syndrome of "The
young whippersnappers are always wrong, and only us old (mostly,
straight, married, white, male, non-disabled) farts know anything"
business. Ageism, but not against the old; rather the old against the
young. Does this syndrome afflict liberal arts, more than other fields?
(Kissinger once said of academia: "The fights are so intense, because
the stakes are so small.")
So - come on ! -- who's the author of the ridiculous "pedophile studies"
quote?
