Hi Barbara,
Scaption is the motion of the humerus in the plane of the scapula (30
degrees anterior to the frontal plane). See Carolyn Kisner and Lynn Allen
Colby book "Therapeutic Exercise, Foundations and Techniques" Third Edition
F.A. Davis. 1996 p. 278.

Does anyone have a reference or specific definition of a movement sometimes
called "scaption"--associated with the "empty can test" of supraspinatus
function--I think of it as internal/external shoulder rotation with the
scapula abducted--but can't find an "official" reference--thanks
