Dear Jodi
May I suggest you have a look at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
Database of outcome measures? This isn't an exhaustive listing of outcome
measures, but might be a useful start. It has information on about 150
measures on. It certainly has information on measures for balance, e.g.
Berg, TUAG, Step test, Standing balance test. It also has a wide range of
functional ability-type measures for use in neurology.
It is at http://www.nice.org.uk
· Click on 'databases' (top, centre icon).
· Click 'search online'
· Search For: put in key word e.g. csp AND balance, or csp AND neurology. To
see the whole database, key in 'csp'.
· Search Categories: tick - 'Title', 'Abstract', 'Keywords'.
· Database: tick - 'Bibliography'
· Date: 'until' '1999'
· Results: tick 'Simple'
· When you see a measure you are interested in, double click on the 'Title'
and the whole record will be expanded.
I hope this is helpful. I'd be very interested in any other measures you
come across which aren't on the database. If you do spot any errors, or
omissions, please let me know.
Good luck with your hunt.

Subject: balance assessment
I am an exercise therapist currently leading research into the
effectiveness of intensive exercise therapy on the ambulatory potential of
paraplegics. To assist in the research, I am looking for a balance
assessment that has been tested for validity and reliability and that can
be used for neurological patients, with consideration for floor and ceiling
effects that will have wide application for use in the neurological field.
I would be most grateful for any assistance.
