Hello
Well this really does feel like the 21st C. - I have spent a productive
morning joining electronic mailing lists, something which is very new to
me. I am currently working with the London Institute on a range of
aspects of professional practice and implications for curriculum
development and CPD. I am directing a research project in this field and
we are also tackling the (vast) task of auditing and analysing the very
broad range of activity in this field across the Institute as a whole.
My current research interests lie mainly in the area of the self-image
of the creative practitioner and the way in which this has failed to
develop in line with social and economic change. Although this work
covers creative practice across all visual art forms I have a particular
interest in the crafts (having spent six years with the Crafts Council
as Head of PR from 81-87).
I am also running a very interesting pan-Institute MA programme, MA
Enterprise and Management of the Creative Arts. This is a part time
programme (attending college one day a week over two years) and is
proving very interesting. It was originally designed as a kind of MBA
for practitioners, but now attracts arts managers as well, and is
developing a strong identity of its own as a vehicle for career
development and change, with a very closely integrated and supportive
student group.
I would be delighted to hear from any list members who are interested in
any aspect of the professional practice/professional development area
with a view to mutual exchange of information and ideas.
With very best wishes for the new year.
