A straw pole of departments in the wake of the millennium eve has suggested
that A&E departments have coped well with the night of the world's biggest
party ever. However this was mainly a tribute to proper planning and
organisation of emergency departments and emergency services. The BAEM has
issued another press release commenting on how departments have coped but
also expressing concern for the rest of the bank holiday period as the
number of elderly patients with high dependancy and acuity due to
respiratory complaints continues to be high. We have again appealed to the
public to seek alternative care for minor complaints during the rest of the
bank holiday.
