Does anyone know of any references for guides / atlases for
identifying unfused mammal bones? I have:
Amorisi, T. 1983 "A Post-Cranial Guide to Domestic Neo-Natal and
Juvenile Mammals" BAR (international series) 533.
I am particularly interested in distinguishing between red deer
(Cervus elaphus) and cattle (Bos taurus), and, at the moment,
mainly concerned with the reliability of distinguishing between the
two species on the unfused metapodial distal shaft fragments. The
(limited) reference collection here suggests they are quite
distinctive.
Any opinions??
