Co-ordinator for the European Network of Science Communication Teachers
(Half-time post)
A European Network of Science Communication Teachers (ENSCOT) has just been
formed under the auspices of the European Union's Raising Public Awareness
of Science and Technology initiative. It involves universities in the U.K.,
Ireland, France, Germany and Spain.
ENSCOT is now looking for an Academic Co-ordinator. The post is available
from February 1, 2000, or as close to that start date as is feasible for the
chosen candidate.
The aims of ENSCOT are to construct a European module for teaching science
communication to university level students, to design a science
communication workshop for scientists working on European research projects,
and to expand the current nucleus to involve science communication teachers
in all E.U. countries.
Candidates must have interest and experience in science communication and
issues concerning the public understanding of science/culture scientifique.
If possible, they should also have experience either in science
communication teaching or in science public outreach activities. A good
command of written and spoken English is essential. A command of languages
relevant to ENSCOT would be considered desirable.
The half-time Academic Co-ordinator will initially be appointed on the RAI
scale between £9093 and £10798 (£18185 and £21597 full-time equivalent
salary) plus London weighting of £1067. Annual increments and pension scheme
are additional.
Candidates should submit:
1) a short statement of interest, not to exceed 2 A4 pages;
2) a current curriculum vitae;
3) the names of two referees.
