Launch of The Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Leadership (JAEOL)
>From a historical perspective, JAEOL was the original text published by
adventure education. The journal originally included academic and non
academic articles. In recent years it has changed to be called Horizons
which is a professional magazine with a practitioner focus. The intention
was for JAEOL to become a separate publication providing an academic forum
for debate, thinking and research.
Recently both of these publications have become owned by the Association
for Outdoor Learning (AfOL). With this new ownership it has become an
appropriate time to re-establish the JAEOL, thus launching it as an
academic refereed journal. We have both been appointed to edit and take
responsibility for this re-establishment.
The purpose of this academic journal is to promote dialogue, research,
thinking, understanding, teaching and practice in the broad field of
adventure education and outdoor leadership.
Articles for the journal are accepted at any time, the first edition should
be published Autumn 2000.
Submissions. All articles and enquiries should be sent to the Editors,
Peter Allison and Kaye Richards, Association for Outdoor Learning, 12 St.
Andrews Churchyard, Penrith, Cumbria, CA11 7YE, United Kingdom.
