University of Birmingham Centre for Chemical Physics
Reaction Dynamics in the Gas-Phase, in Clusters and on Surfaces
The Third Meeting of the University of Birmingham Centre for Chemical Physics
to be held in the School of Chemistry at The University of Birmingham
on Thursday 6th April 2000
The University of Birmingham has established a cross-disciplinary Centre for
Chemical Physics. It formalises and extends existing links between research
groups in the Schools of Chemistry and Physics bringing together researchers
with a wide range of interests in chemical physics including: the dynamics of
neutral-neutral and ion-molecule reactions, the physics and chemistry of the
gas-solid interface, the chemistry and physics of free and adsorbed clusters,
electronic structure and scattering calculations, laboratory astrophysical
chemistry, and the use of vacuum ultraviolet radiation, including femtosecond
sources to probe the dynamics of gas-phase and surface species.
A one-day meeting is to be held on Thursday, 6 April 2000 in the School of
Chemistry at the University of Birmingham under the auspices of the Birmingham
Centre for Chemical Physics. This meeting immediately follows the Faraday
Discussion in York on Molecular Photoionisation. The following have accepted
invitations to deliver keynote lectures in Birmingham:
* Bob Continetti (University of California, San Diego) "Coincidence studies of
the dynamics of transient species"
* Mark Johnson (Yale University) "Ions on the rocks: A cluster based
exploration of anionic hydration"
* Dan Neumark (University of California, Berkeley) "Time resolved studies of
cluster dynamics using femtosecond photoelectron spectroscopy"
* Jens Nørskov (Technical University of Denmark) "Nitrogen activation on metal
surfaces"
In addition, there will be space in the programme for 6 shorter, contributed
talks (15 min + 5 min discussion) and space for posters. If you are interested
in attending this meeting, we would be grateful if you could return the
registration form (available with this notice from the Centre's home page,
http://web.bham.ac.uk/i.r.sims/CCP/CCPHome.html) Cost per person is £10 which
covers registration, lunch and all-day refreshments.
