Two Postgraduate Studentships in Molecular Physics
Department of Physics and Astronomy,
University College London
Two three-year postgraduate positions funded by the UK Engineering and
Physical Sciences Research Council are available for a new
interdisciplinary project investigating electron collision processes
important in technological plasmas.
One student will work with Dr Nigel Mason performing experimental
studies using modern electron scattering, and laser spectroscopy
techniques to study electron collision processes pertinent to
industrial plasma processing.
The second student will work with Prof Jonathan Tennyson perform
R-matrix calculations on electron scattering from free radical targets
important for industrial plasma processing.
The research programme is part of an international research
collaboration and students will perform joint project work in several
other major European laboratories. A visit to Japan to co-ordinate
experiments with research teams in Tokyo is also anticipated as part
of the experimental project.
Candidates should have, or be about to obtain, a good
degree in Physics, Chemistry or a related discipline.
