Philip,
According to a paper (possibly Haldane, J. S. and Gordon-Douglas, J.
Testing for carbon monoxide in connection with fires and explosions in
mines. Trans. Inst. Min. Eng., Vol. 38, (1909-10), p 267-280.) the following
had been suggested as detectors of carbon monoxide: mice, guinea pigs,
rabbits, dogs, canaries, pigeons, and chickens.
