Programme Officer: History of Medicine
The Wellcome Trust, the UK's largest funder of the history of
medicine with an annual budget of stlg5 million, is seeking a Programme
Officer to assist in the general management of the grants programme.
Working as part of a small team alongside the Programme Manager, you
will provide advice to the academic community on the various grant
giving schemes and will be responsible for the administration of
grant applications. This will include assisting in the selection of
referees, preparation of papers for panels, the monitoring of grants
and the evaluation of their outcomes.
You should have a postgraduate qualification in histiry, and ideally,
a doctorate in the history of medicine. Some prior administration
experience is essential and you should be keen to develop your
administrative skills further whilst maintaining good links with the
academic community. Above all, you will be an excellent communicator,
ethusiastic about the role of history as an academic discipline and
able to demonstrate an awareness of its contribution to the public
understanding of health and medicine in present day society.

salary will be on a scale from stlg24,021 to cstlg34,000 p.a. depending on
experience.
